So, I've had good success growing plants hydroponically in the overflows and sump, sump is filled, overflows are more or less filled as well. Plants in the tank don't last long, so I've added new lids, moving from plate glass to 1/2" acrylic, going to install 8" baskets to hold the plants.

I already have grow lights mounted above the tank that are on 24/7.

I'll post pictures here as project progresses.

Sounds exciting. Deffinitly a good way to help keep water clean. Just with jumpig fish you need to be really carefull with how you impliment it so that they is no way for your fish to jump out of the tank and onto the floor.

oh sorry, i'll get pics up soon, got it cut in, and planted the pothos, tried tomattos and basel too not sure they are still growing but they have started to grow (seeds in cheese cloth) sideways, went straight up first few inches...thinking of putting something in to help keep them going up and out. Currently have the acrylic that i cut out on top creating a sort of green house in the 10" bucket, have about 3-4" of air gap on this.

got distracted with new quarintee system. Picked up a few old 25-30 gallon tanks (not sure what size) and have them stacked up connected to an old sump i had laying around think its 50-75g. one of them blew out first night setup so have been looking at using acrylic on top shelf, also doing trials with seachem pristine, which so far I'm amazed by, i'll post a thread on it when i get time and figure out which section, but on my tank its really difficult to remove sludge from around the plants in the sump and its about 2-3 inches thick right now. no nitrates nitrites or amonia is detectable with off the shelf kits but still like to get it broken down, roots have overtaken a good bit of it though....sorry for the massive run on sentence

some pictures of the sump, try and get some of the lids, only have one of them cut right now..other ones just have feeding holes installed.
cutting a 9" hole in 1/2" acrylic proved more involved then originally thought, still easier then glass
