External filters which is the best on the market

Money is no object? Freshwater?

whatever you do stay away from Fluval filters except the FX5. The others have a tendency to leak. Silly 2 clip closing system with the rubber ring a pain the the behind to get a proper seal.
Eheim, JBL, Jebao, Tetratec, Sera are all OK. The filter media is more important than the filter. After all it's only a canister with a water pump attached

Aqua CLear Filters........

Agree for HOB Aquaclear hands down. Canisters I like the Rena XP series

I must agree to that RENA canister filters are a must..BAck in the day, the 90's, I used Fluval canister filters......These days, te RENA is the personal replacement to the good old fluval 403..........

The canister filter is something fun to manage.....It will also bring you to the next level in filtration-=the wet dry filter......

I agree, I bought cheap canister filters for $100 on ebay (http://cgi.ebay.com/JEBO-AQUARUIM-5-PLY-EXTERNAL-CANISTER-FILTER-839-829-/150456182824?cmd=ViewItem&pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2307e32828#ht_1369wt_1137)and spent $60 on filter media from seachem and I am a very satisfied customer.

for 400 liters just get a filter that is rated for 500-600 liters, if you can double it to 800 its even better
