External Gills

How long does it take for WAL to lose their external gills? Approximately, of course...

I ask because from what I saw online they lose them by the time they are 6 inches or so. My WAL is about 10-12 inches and still has them. I will try to get some pics up tonight when I get home from work.

my little guy still has his and hes about 12" long , got him at about 7" or 8" but they are not as big now as they where ... i think... iv named him gilbert

found this old thread with a great ? my guy I picked up yesterday is 31'' and still has gills anyone else? I was also told that he is only one year old but already the size of my arm or a small ladies leg.

I can't address the gills, but I find hard to believe it is that large at that age.
