Double Rainbow
one of my pups has little brown things crawling on its belly. Ive already turned up the heat. Anybody know what these things are they look like little crabs. ill try and get pics.

thanks

it may be a parasite or protzoan. Treat it with anti parasitic/protozoan immediately and add 1 Table spoon of salt for every 5 gal...Do 50% water change every 24 hours... After replacing a new clean water. Repeat the process... Do this in 4 days...

little brown crabs sounds like fish lice. you will need to treat with anchors away from jungle pond should do the trick. are these new pups and where did you purchase at? also pics are always good but i think they are lice. also just folow the anchors away directions.

they are new pups from a lfs. only had them about a week. I just looked up fish lice and im 100% sure that is what it is. i turned up heat and added a little salt already. Do you know if Walmart usually carries the jungle product for getting rid of this? all lfs are closed now.

also water parems are perfect nitrite is 0 ammo 0 and nitrate is 20. what are the chances of the little guy surviving?

he should be fine walmart wont carry though. so tomorrow start going to your lfs and seeing what store has it. none of mine had it so i had to order it also you might be careful aout buying at that store fishwise in the future and also let them know about it if you go in there. and if they suggest another type of parasite med be very careful as rays are very sensitive.

see how the SALT goes first, before adding any other chemicals.

SALT only works when the TEMP has been increased.
Give it a Few Days, it should be fine.

If they still remain, please check the meds you use, as most are not suitable for Rays

thank you sir. Ive already got a link to buy it online bookmarked just in case i cant find it tomorrow.

Turn you temp down. And if you're adding salt, don't do daily water changes...you're only removing the salt you're adding.

Run them between 75-77F. The parasite (if it is 'lice') will breed and go through the life cycle faster at higher temps.

What else is in the tank? You may need to take action to break the life cycle, like formalin or some type of chiton prohibitor (which prevents the molting phases as the parasite grows).
