I got a new Hydrolycus Tatauaia aka "Red Tail Payara" about a week ago. I currently own another one and thought it'd be nice if it could have some others to swim with it.. BUT! I'm starting to see black colored dots appear on all over the face and some of the body. You can really see it on the jaw because the base color is bright silver.
It doesn't seem too uncommon, as I'm skimming through other pictures that Payara owners have posted, but what worries me is that there are some pictures in which the fish doesn't have dots (looks extremely healthy to me!) and the dots on my fish seem to have gotten larger within the last couple days.
I don't know if I'm just being paranoid, but I would rather be safe than to find out later, that I could've done something about it. I do feed it live feeders but am currently working on it to take pellets (nothing new, but it's a pita!). I've added a bit of salt, did a large water change and added some Mardel Coppersafe (about a third of the recommended dose... Payaras seem extremely sensitive to changes in the water).
I haven't got new pictures of my 1st tat to compare it to, but as you can see in the following link, the whole body is bright silver and clean, whereas the new one has dots. http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/f...-this-isn-t-a-Scomb...&highlight=scomberoides
