What external pumps do you like for your 500 gallon plus setups? Energy efficiency is a plus
Thank you

I have been using Sicce pumps the last couple years on my 300 gal systems.
They are considered energy efficient, are quiet, and have a decent warranties.
I don't get the smart type (programmable) but understand they are available, if needed,
because I'm a bit old school and am fine with low tech PVC valves.
The ones I have used the last couple years don't produce a lot of heat, which is a plus where I now live, I didn't mind the extra heat the old Mag drive types in Wisconsin but here in Panama, I don't want any extra.

Had the one above running 24/7 since Aug of 2020, without a blip.
I find the ability and flexibility to use either threaded PVC plumbing, or tubing a plus.

In general I use Eheim pumps. Small, powerful and reliable.

But for my large tank I use a Japanese Iwaki, with a Jebao as backup.

I use Current USA pumps in most of my tanks, I run six of them in all. About the best flow to power draw ratio that's out there. I have the 6010, 1,900 gph model on my 230 and 325 and a couple 6011, 3,170 gph models on my 730. Very quiet. My oldest has been running for 8 years and I have yet to have one fail.

can you run the Jebao externally? I have a lot of them running now. Pretty sure they say for internal use only

Yes. Er, well. My one is external.

Don't use it all the time, as it is a backup, but I have had it running for a couple of week one time without issue.

Can't see anywhere on the box where it says anything about internal or external.

I did get the AC version (ACQ-12000), not one of the DC pumps. It was cheaper, and I think you get a bit more head with the AC version.

Maybe you can read the instructions and find out.

Think it is actually written on the pump. Mine are also all dc if that makes a difference

You have got me thinking now. What if my backup is not functional as a backup.

Nothing is printed on the pump itself. And the manufacturer's web page for the product does not say anything.

In fact, I have been through the entire website, and I cannot find anything to say about either internal or external.

thank you for looking. I have five or six of these sitting in the garage as backup pumps. Will try to take a look at one this weekend

ReeFlo pumps. Quiet, energy efficient work horses. I do have to admit I have limited experience, having used only one ReeFlo Hammerhead pump. I bought a second one as an emergency replacement pump 18 years ago, and it is still in its box. I have two Hammerhead pumps in their boxes, (they don't make them anymore and have Hammerhead/Barracuda hybrid pumps now) and two Barracuda Gold pumps and a Tarpon pump for the big set up which still isn't done after all these years.

These apparently are the currently available ReeFlo pumps
