I know when you have to raise the temp you get less oxygen in the tank. So, people use air stones and power heads to get addition oxygen. I have a 55 gallon tank with an emperor 400 which seems like it creates a lot of top surface movement. I did not want to purchase a air stone or powerhead so I was thinking of using my penguin 150 to create extra oxygen.

Could this work or should i get a airstone or powerhead?

My fish have Ich so i am going salt and temp method.

I currently have the lights off and have only feed them once today. The temp is at 88 degrees at the moment but I have not used any salt. I will do that tomorrow.

Any comments on this setup?

when your fish are sick dont feed them let them recover first, just like how we are sick we dont have an appetite so our bodies fight the illness that we have. i would buy a koralia circulation/wave pump nano 425 or 240. the more water movement you have in your tank, the less likely your fishes will get ich. but dont stress your fish by gettin one now wait til they recover. good luck! i'd put salt in the tank to help speed up the recovery

88° HOLY CRAP!

Most fish get ich from stress, assuming ur temp used to be 75-78° U bumped it a min of 10°! That right there is ALOT of stress! Ich is very tricky to treat, maracyn works good w/ water changes

Ich can't live past 86F so salt +lots of Wc will do the trick

Ich in egg form cant live in 86+ but ich inside the fish CAN LIVE AT 86+. Egg stage is only a couple days and the cycle is repeated. Crappy water and stress caused this. If something doesnt change everything will die. Truely sad

Could of sworn I read some where on mfk an artical that ich can't live past 86. Is there anything to back this up? Or its 100% false? Or does it greatly reduce the rate at reproducing? Ich is like a cold right? It hosts cells and kills it cell and moves on to the next? So by putting the temp at 86 would this slow down the process?

Ich has a whole life cycle and when its embedded in the fish it lives off the fish. 86° will not kill it when its inside its host, it will greatly slow it down in egg stage. Ive had this problem once and maracyn solved it within a week. Every fish has ich but it only gets bad with poor conditions and water which induce stress.

Im just saying id never crank my heat up to 86.
