Hey guys I have a 55g with about 15 Auloncara (small-med sized) big enough for them to all be fully colored up. Included a small cuckoo, 4.5in and a featherfin 5in with two gold bristlenose which are tiny.
My filtration is a Fluval 406 which is packed with two chemi pure bags, 2 trays of biomax and some sponges. My main concern is that I only do 40% water change once a week and that it might not be enough? Unfortunately I can not get a bigger tank as I have no space for it. As they grow to full size since I've had them 5months-1year now I fear that the bio load might be too much. I always test my water before and after a change and it seems pretty clean but the .10 ammonia really bothers me. Am I over reacting or should I throw a smaller 106 for bio or a HOB bio wheel on it?

You could be overfeeding. If you want to add more filtration then I would get a Sunsun hw-402b uv canister filter to add to it. The 9watt uv does a great job in keeping the water clear. It has 3 trays that you can put more biological in. I would put blue pads in bottom tray and pack the other two with Seachem Matrix. They are rated for 75gal and pump 264gal per hour. Look them up on ebay. I have gotten 4 of these and only paid $56-$59 bucks each. Just make sure it has the uv. Also some come with media and some do not. Look for the store "CLL Pet Supplies" they usually have the best price, that's where I get mine from. Hope this helps.

An AC 110 would work well. Your going to be overstocked when the fish fully grow. Are you looking to breed them? If so keep your 2 nicest males and start getting rid of the rest. I would also increase the amount of your water changes. Does your tap water have an ammonia or chloramines in it?
