I am going to buy another 100+ gallon glass aquarium. Looking at Aqueon and Marineland.

I always inspect them at store for workmanship flaws before purchasing and have actually declined a few over the years.

1. My question is can you add extra aquarium silicone to an existing new aquarium to make it even stronger? Or would that be a waste of time.

2. Is there any reason NOT to add a fresh bead of aquarium sealant on top of the layer that comes from the manufacturer ?

Thanks

Without scraping and cleaning the glass, putting silicone over the existing silicone is a waist. It won’t bond to the previous bead of silicone. Why do you feel it’s necessary to add silicone to a brand new tank?

I guess I'm paranoid about leaks.

They just don't seem to make glass aquariums like they used to.

I have a two Oceanic tanks that are 18yrs old and the glass is thicker than most, Silicone is thick, glass center brace also. Built like a tank. I wish they never went out of business.

I don't like acrylic due to cost and it can scratch.

Thanks for the input.
