You can see individual cells in this one.

ridiculous! did you reverse the 50mm on the extension tube?

Yep. Dust in my lens really bothers me on these close photos.

You really can't get a good grasp of how small those are from these photos. I'll post up a couple of my setup and a crop of the last one.

Here's my setup. Made a small acrylic tank with opaque sides that works well to diffuse the flash and get soft light.

The area I shot of the small drops is on the left in this photo, just to the left of the largest droplet.

And a crop of the last photo, so you can see the individual plant cells.

thanks for the behind-the-scenes view! ive been thinking of building a little macro setup but i have no idea where to begin. i was thinking of using a styrofoam box to place the flash in and bounce it back. i need to get my thinking cap on :)

haha now that is what i'm talkign about! ive also thought about one of those translucent storage totes, or an old fishtank with a sheet over the sides. so many possibilities.

do you use another source of light to help you focus? the view is really dark through a tube at small apertures

Na, I use a tripod. Snap a photo to get a feel for focus, then move it in out until I have it dialed in. Usually takes about 4 throwaway shots, then I can adjust slightly until I get what I want in regards to exposure.

I know what you mean about the viewfinder being dark...pretty much pitch black.

I can't wait till my Lester A. Dine 105mm f2.8 macro shows up. It was made for dental photograpy. Haha. I stole the thing off KEH for $70 shipped, supposedly one of the sharpest macro lenses ever; with amazing bokeh.
