Extremely cowardly cichlid

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
My super green texas is extremely scared of... all of it's tankmates. It has its moments of terrorism, but otherwise hides and runs away from everything all the time. Anyone had any experience with extremely timid cichlids before, and somehow managed to get them to be braver? I mean, its tankmates are either a lot smaller or placid like a rock so there shouldn't be ANY reason for it to hide all the time, but it does. >_>

It could be stress Cichlids get more aggressive when they get bigger and or reach sexual maturity. Be careful what you wish for moments of terrorism may end up with death to all tankmates.

Yeah, stress probably, I still don't think it's used to my tank yet (even though it's been here for a while). Though it did have a history of being bullied (in her previous keeper's tank). The guy did sell her to me immediately when he realized what was going on, but still he said that she was assaulted pretty badly by her previous tankmates.

But yeah lol that's what I'm kinda afraid of, those moments of terrorism turning into something worst. Prolly won't mind too much though (this will probably make me seem like a bad person), but I really only care about her. The rest may die and it probably won't be too big of a deal to me.

If the other fish were in the tank first, they own it. If you added the Texas after the other fish established territory's, the Texas is at a disadvantage with no where to have a stress free environment, especially if it were bullied in the past. Adding any fish after others own the tank, without totally rearranging the tank decor sets that new fish for a fall.
