Just tested my month old 25g(used established media), which has a handful of adult and baby guppys, along with 5 Stiphodon semoni. Readings are... 0 ammonia, 0 nitrite, 0 nitrate (under stock and plants), and 8.4 ph. It comes out of my tap at 7.2. The only thing I dose with is excel for the plants. What could be raising it so high? The sand is neutral, filtered by an ac 110. Im stumped.

If the water is agitated more lately than before, the gassing off of CO2 can cause a rise in PH. A HOB dumping into a tank with a lower level can cause this turbulence. If the plants are undergoing new growth, the CO2 could be getting used up, causing a rise in PH. Some people find it necessary to add CO2 to their tanks.

8.4 is perfectly acceptable; I get 8.4 out of the tap here in WI. If you're not having any problems (fish looking ill/lethargic) then I would just let it be. Consistency is much more important than having the "perfect" pH level.

I wouldn't worry about 8.4, that isn't really that high. If you are to concerned to sleep try a big piece of driftwood, it might help buffer a little.
Breeding is actually a sign of success, you know that right? Good job!
If faster current is what your after, submerge a power head at one end of the tank to simulate a stream. Keep it low and dont go for a huge current or the guppies won't dig it.

Guppies arnt too hard to breed haha, all the males do is chase the females, whata life.

The gobies profile says 6.5-7.5, I decreased the surface agitation a bit, so it shouldn't get so high after the next water change.

Good call on the surface agitation, ph is now down to 7.8.

In an unrelated topic. Even though I have 0 nitrates, all I get to grow is brown algea, I want it green for my gobies. Is it my lighting? I have a flora glow bulb I can switch to. Right now it just has the standard bulb those cheap plastic hoods have.

Switch to a higher power lighting; T8s, T5s, etc.
