I have a yellow tail damsel, who is the only fish in the tank, and he wont come out of the live rock structure. Occasionally, he will poke his head out, but that is it. I have tried to coax him out with mysis and brine shrimp, but he stays put.

This has gone on for two days, and I am starting to become worried about him eating, and the impact on his health.

Any ideas on how to coax him out?

As a general rule i have always found damsels to be very agressive and outgoing and active. How long have you had him for? He may still be settling into the tank, and also when you add more fish he should come out more as he will see them swimming about and this should make him feel more secure.

And not feeding for 2 days wont hurt him at all, they can go much longer than that.

Whats your water tests like?

make sure everything is is perfect working order first.

Then if there is no problem he could just be claiming the rocks. My eel didn't eat for 2 months when i first got him. Then get came around. Adding another damsel so they have to compete for food will also do the trick.

He finaly decided to come out of the rocks and swim around. He was pushing sand around last night. I guess he didnt like the landscaping I did?

Oh well, he is eating and seems to be plenty happy.
