i got this bichir yesterday and his eye is not looking good what up with it and what the sex?

your Polypterus palmas polli has a severed eye (maybe an injury in the first days of development? Is it any type of "hot" wound or seems the eye to be more scary?
An older wound (type early development) will cause some kind of status quo. The bichir has learnt to manage the limitation and it's a question of aesthetics ...
A "hot" or in a case - fresh wound on a subadult bichir will heal out in an astonishing way. Nearly magic wound healing - if the bichir is okay! Bad condition goes hand in hand with secondar infections - and these are real letal conditions!

The sex (it's a male, 100%) is okay. The anal fins of bichirs are looking funny sometimes. But it's a male in good condition. Injuries (caused by comment fights, not by aggressions by problematic tankmates!) in this area are also benefitted with healing.

You can always use a fish antibacterial for eye infections fom your lfs.

water changes and meds should help. in good conditions, the worst that'll happen is the bichir will be blind in that eye.
