I just recently noticed a strange growth on my female convicts eye.

One eye has the strange thing and the other side looks very cloudy.

She doesn't seem bothered by it though...

What is it and how do I treat it?

Water conditions are fine, tank size is 14g, she is about an inch.
They're there in the 14g to get some size before they move into my 120.

This looks like bacterial cysts to me. Do you have broad spectrum antibiotics, NBK?

Mmm, no I don't... not at home at least.

I can go to the shop and get it, but also, how do I use it?

I've never had illness in my tank! How did this happen?

Follow the instructions on the package. There's no fixed dosage for antibiotics in general.

Bacterial infections can happen especially when a fish may have possibly injured itself. Anything bad will still occur despite our stringent measures to prevent them from happening.

I'll make sure to do that...

Is this something that can spread to the other tank mates? All the other fish still look very happy and healthy.

I'm just so surprised as her only tank mate till a few days ago was a male con, and they seem to get on very well. And now there are a few guppies in the tank as well (due to an accident in the house).

I just feel bad for her... poor little thing.

No, it usually confines itself to one fish only but if others' resistance weakens, then it will affect the others.

Oki doki...thanks for the help :)

Just one last question - this type of infection, can it be fatal?
