So, stupid me goes out to pick up a Brown Ghost Knife from my lfs, as they just got them in. I was in a bit of a rush, so its not until after I pick out the largest and stockiest looking fish (had a few minor scratches but nothing to worry about imho) that I realize the bigger issue....I see that its left eye is white, and I notice while the fish is in the bag that the white thing in its eye moved......

Aside form being a little skeeved out, I am trying to determine what exactly this is. I have the fish in quarantine right now, so I'm not super worried per say...but still, I want to know how to best treat this. I have very little hope of getting a good picture either, as my camera is not good enough and even if it was, the fish is hard to see.

Next time I buy fish...I need to inspect them better, especially if they are fish that move around constantly and are hard to get a good look at. *sigh*

oh jeez, ive seen plenty of fish like this in LFS.. its more then likely an eye parasite, so id do salt and high heat for a while, maybe some anti-parasitic meds too

It's an eye fluke, treat with Prazi or API General Cure, or take it back and get one without it. Eitherway even if you get another one you should QT and treat fro IPs.

How long would you say it would take to treat this guy? And how treatable would you say this is (like my success rate for healing this fish).

I probably won't return t because I don't have the time to go back to return it, and even if I did return it, it's likely I would have to treat regardless no?

You have a very good chance of sucess curing this. I don't know how long it had it and the possibilty of the fluke causing or haveing caused perminant damage to the eye is a very good posibilty too. If you get another one and QT and treat for IPs as a preventative measure is a lot different than the chance this fish could or has lost vision in that eye. To answer your question directly it should be gone in a week and the sucess rate is high.

Alright, and somehow, I don't mind if it has poor vision in that eye, because knifes in general have poor vision anyways.

I'll treat for a week, probably keep in QT a bit longer than a week...then see where it goes from there. Once he is healthy it will be to my 75.

Nvm...it did not make it through the night.

I'm kinda angry because there is no 24 hour policy or anything...I'll see I'm two weeks how they look and if they look fine I'll grab another.

Igh
