during my daily visit to the LFS i noticed one of theyre ornate bichirs was a little unussual, he had no eyes!!!

not like they were bitten off, they just wernt there, like he was born without them, i was wondering how common this was, or if its a rare occurance. id imagne theres probably alot of eyeless bichirs out there, duy to al the farm breeding and stuff.....

i would say that even if it is common, it wouldnt be seen as common. although bichers do not really depend upon their eyesite, they are more like bats from what i can gather, i would think that no eyes would be a disadvantage in the wild, making eyeless bichirs easy prey, and in farm breeding, it would be an undesireable trait and culled. so, i guess we'll never know exactly how common it is.

Was he priced any differently? more/less?

No hollows like the sockets, ive seen them loose eyes and heal but there would always be some kind of indentation where the eyes were.

no indication of eyes at all, just a head patterned as if there were no eyes ever, no eyes........ really kind of wierd, if i had the money id totaly pick him up, but hes $30 and i dont really have the tank space....

think you could score some pics?

i don't know how rare it is or how often they pop up in farm breeding, but i know there are eyeless P. endli endli in japan.

Polypterids depend more on thier sense of smell than eyesight for locating food-Anne
