I was browsing numerous threads in the for sale marketplace section of MFK and noticed some ads that say something "F-1" in the description. What does this mean?

First generation or filial 1.

They are the tank breed offspring of wild caught fish.

does that mean that these fish from wild caught offspring will thrive better, then those from captive bred offspring?

Not really. Its all about genetics and have a quality good looking fish.

Not always. Infact tank raised fish can be healthier in aquaria. This is especially true for a lot of salt water species.

Wild caught fish are good if you want the real deal and not a hybrid. Some wild caught fish can have better coloration than tank bred fish, but also some tank fish are bred for color and finnage that is absent from wild caught.

Some of the "wild caught" and F1 etc I take with a grain of salt. Best way to get known wild or F1 fish is to buy from a reputable dealer such as Jeff Rapps.
