Yesterday my girlfriend wanted to visit her parents for bit so I brought along camera and did a quick half hour shoot of the plants in their front yard. Instead of the usual F11-F22 apertures which I usually use I decided to do a full session at F2.8

Anyone has any tips on cropping or compositions? Think I need to step back a little for most of these shots.

wow they look amazing... i cant wait until i can afford one of these awesome cameras.

Thanks

My camera is a Canon 20D and they're selling for $200-400 for the bodies. I would recommend getting a decent body and a good lens.

Crazy awesome! I need to get DSLR so I can be cool like you guys!!

Thanks

Entry level DSLRs are not as expensive as they used to be.

Beautiful shots man!

The last two shots are definitely my favorite. As far as composition, most shots are centered.

What lens you got man? I'm also a Canon guy haha.

I have been hearing about the rule of third that I will have to try. Pretty sure it'll take some getting used to since I'm so used to centering most of my subjects.

Using a Canon 20D paired with a Sigma 150mm macro lens.

Nice pics. :)

Rule of thirds is a pita, imo, lol.

Just a couple of quick tips: while framing your shot, think about filling the frame evenly. Your last pic in this series is a good example. Looking from the left, flower, flower, flower, flower, dead space. The second last image is filled in more evenly.
Think about what you want behind the primary subject as well, and consider if it makes the eye look at something other than the primary subject.

Use the rule of thirds - don't place the subject in the middle. Think the way you compose the shot. Nice close-ups. Beautiful bokeh. Congrats. For macro you definitely need a tripod and you lose a few stops by closing in. You probably get to 4.8 or 5.6. Cheers. :)
