My wild female Rotkeil seems to like my F1 male better than the F0 male. Both have breeding tubes down and I'm hoping for a spawn soon.

My question is what will the fry be? F1 1/2 (ha ha) or F2?

Good question. Since they're from different places(one wild/one captive) I'd almost venture to say F1 would fit the fry.

F1.5 Split the difference lol.

I agree they are F2.
First captive bred fry from wild stocks are F1's.
Once an F1 is used as a breeder then the captive born fry are F2.

I line breed so the F series does not apply. I must count and name generations as the true lineage of the parents is lost when pairing siblings/cousins. And then what do you do when you fix a color by breeding back the third generation daughter to the original father/male? Incest at its best!

Genetically, an F0 X F1 spawn results in F2 offspring. However, the correct label for the sale of these fish is F0 x F1

These __ x __ labels are widely used in the Line-Breeding of a species to promote certain traits (as in chili red aros)

BTW, the accepted practice commercial label for any spawn beyond F3 is 'tank-raised'. This is due to the increased chances of intermixing siblings within the hobby.
