So i just moved my festae bonded pair from my 180 to the 72 so they could breed so i took a quick video to show you there set up , in the video the male a F0 wild ecuador is showing some ugly colors lol , but the female also f0 was showing some good colors that i have not seen from her yet, she was showing a mixture of yelllow and orange and usually she is a solid fire orange with dark black stripes, anywayz hopefully i can get them to spawn so i can provide some festae to the bay area , and what do you guys think of the festae are they " quality or trash" as you guys say , 015.JPG

I'd say quality... Remember, both will develop even better colors as they grow larger. The females reds will intensify, but try not to breed them to much as that could certainly stun her... I had a pair about this size that spawned and I kept the fry in the tank with them for a few months.... in that time both fish didn't spawn and grew dramatically. keeping fry in the tank with the parents acts like some kind of birth control, if you like and they eat all the scraps of left over food leaving the tank perfectly clean :)

Thanks i plan on letting them raise the fry for 2-3 months if they dont kill them and turn out to be goo dparents

How old are they? Do you have anything else in there? Since this may be the first spawn be aware of aggression between them. Usually brand new pairs might need a try or two before being successful. But either way I'm sure the male is ready and if she isn't then keep an eye out so she doesn't get killed. It's always been easier for me to get the first timers to spawn by using dithers. Then after fry hatch, pull the dithers and you should be good to go without them now but keep a divider handy at all times cause they could snap at any moment leaving you with one festae. Good luck spawning.

Well you lucked out because in most cases fry do not work as birgt control. When fish are ready to spawn, they will spawn. Fry or not. One if my pairs only had fry in for 4 weeks then spawned again. Those fry ate new batch. Usually around 4-6 weeks is when I pull fry. It gives the fry enough Time to benefit from parent's and not enough time to be a pain in the butt to catch.

they have not spawned yet but im working on it haha ,, and yes you guys i plan on having dithers for sure, i was thinking of using silver dollars and hinduran red points and just small species of fish ,, hmmm let me call my friend to find out how old the male is but i believe he is 1 year old since he was an 1" from last year,

And thanks i really hope this pair turns into some monster beefy festae

They R not F0 Ecuador. Nice fish though! Where did you get them and how old R they?
um the male i purchased from a reliable source as F0 Ecuador! the female is PEru !

Dude I was gonna say the same but figured id let you live the dream;) there has been no Wild ecuador legally imported in years!! and the fact you mentioned he was only 1" last year goes to prove it. maybe if your source told you that it was 4 years old then more believable....I mean that is what he sold it to you as, but it doesnt mean that is what it is. Make sure to do your research before buying fish. were the parents swimming in his tank?? i might believe that he has the wild pair in his tank and there was a miscommunication during the sale. Either way congreats on your pair. Funny thing about reliable sources....
