Spawned last night. I’ve really enjoyed bringing these fish into condition and achieving this result. Too bad I’ll be chasing steelhead and elk the next month and a half and the fish will only be looked after every few days or week. I’ve got another few spawns that are already destined to be guapote food- these guys will have a chance in a really mature tank.

Been gone for a month and a half. My wife and son have been throwing feed at the fish every so often- nevertheless I’ve got about 150 of these little jokers left- and loooking at the discrepancy in size between some of them I’m sure there’s a good bit of predation going on. Sibling rivalry at its finest.

Not much to add really. I pulled the fry separated into 2 groups by size. Cannabalism has been the only drama. I have a few left available. I i put the pair into a 33 which is like the footprint of a 55 but as tall as a 20 long the heater is set to 70 and they’re with some calico culls again to keep things diffused. The females belly is big but I didn’t think much of it in the tight tank and low heat but they’re back into there prespawn routine, which for this pair consists mainly of a lot of flaring and tail wagging interrupted ny periods of running down and killing the other occupants of the tank. They’ll probably spawn again pretty soon.
crappy pics- the fry are all 1-1.5” now and that calico HRP is probably going to have a rough day. Wish I could get a better picture of the male. He is badass, more subtle but striking. And the total package when it comes to handling his business as tank boss
