There have been some recent threads and lists that include mention of F1 Cuban cichlids (N tetracanthus).

This of course begs the questions: who has the wild parents...and how did they collect them?

Anyone have any insight onto this? Is there active collecting going on in Cuba? Other fish available?

Hi, I posted my f1 pair. I got mine from rapps couple years ago. He sold them as f1. I'm not here to argue the fact. I understand its illegal to import from cuba to usa, but not illegal for another country to obtain and then import to usa. Again its a good question and I don't have the answers. But if jeff claimed my pair as f1 then I have no reason not to beliwce.

Nope. I had F1 blue tetracanthus about 20 years ago. They are loooong gone. That would be a very cool fish to see in the trade again....

Ive never advertised or listed anything I've sold as F anything in terms of tetracanthus. I won't ever claim an F number to tetracanthus in the trade nowadays. They are very far removed from wild stock. Lucky for those of us who keep them, they've remained very well in tact (no 'sweetheart' tail less forms, balloon body mutants, etc.

Someone says they have wild tetracanthus and is selling the offspring? There is a near total embargo between the US and Cuba. Getting such F-1 fish could only come internationally (if done legally) as I understand it. Does anyone have any contradictory info on that?

You can't even legally get Cuban cigars legally in the US, but "they" can easily be had. Truth is, though, that 95% of "Cuban cigars" in the US are counterfeit and the remaining 5% are illegally smuggled in. Could be the same with illegal fish.

If I were selling F-1's I'd have my explanation at the ready. If I were selling the real deal legally (perhaps imported from an overseas source?) I'd advertise the HECK out of that and charge stiff prices (and get them!). I have trouble believing that any savvy businessman wouldn't do the same.

Who is selling these, and who is claiming to have wild breeders? An American seller? Hope not. There could be some legal ramifications if I understand the embargo correctly.
