So October of 09 I got some F1 Peru oscars from Jeff Rapps to grow them out and get a pair. I had 2 start to show signs of pairing so I pulled the other 3. It took several months from the spawning signs to go into actual spawns. The first time non the eggs were fertilized and they ate them right away so I was fearful I got two females. Then they spawned again and from the looks of it they were all white again so I was starting to fear the worst. Even tho the last spawn didnt look successful they left them and kept guarding them. They got all fuzzy with fungus and then they ripped them off the rocks.

Well to my amazement today I have found about 25 wigglers in there tank!!!! So a total success...it actually IS a female AND a male!!! Thanks again Jeff for yet another stunning fish in my collection!

That's great! I'm glad that you didn't give up on them. I know how much they teased you with possible fry in the past. Grow these little guys out and expect a few PMs.

I am going to leave these in with the parents to give them a little experience. And PM's are welcomed...like the festae I might try shipping these. I dont mind trying...I haven't before but i think I can handle it...its just the cost people will have to pay for freight.

Congrats!, it must feel great to finally have babies after over two years.

You have no ideas...I really thought i had 2 females. I still have the other 3 but I didnt want to try finding another pair...I was thinking about giving up on them all together if the next couple spawns were all white again. Not any more :D

Well keep us posted on the growth of your fry. I'd like to see their coloration and patterns as very young Oscars. I'm not normally a fan of Oscars but these are exceptional to me. I might be interested if I have the space when they are ready. Every time I break down a tank to lessen the amount I have throughout my house, I always find another reason to set them back up again. This does not make my wife happy one bit!

Tell her im sorry lol.

If you look at that fist thread I linked to you can see some pics of when these were only about 2". Not like what you see in the store...not hormone injected to be vivid red...plane Jane gray black and white. In the other threads you can see how the color comes in...really cool to watch them grom.

Duh! I don't know how I skipped over those links to the other threads. I guess I was just too anxious to see pics of the fry. I definitely see their progression since you bought them. They went from gray tones to the spectacular red and orange hues. It's a very dramatic change. My wife watched Mel O's recent thread with me. He makes my few little set ups look tame in comparison. Maybe she'll be cool with two more tanks...maybe.
