F1 umbee pair

I finally decided to put my female umbee in the male's tank. Up until this point I was never 100% sure it was female, as I'd never seen black in the dorsal, and it's color was very similar to the male. This changed within 10 minutes of being in his tank. As you can see, it looks like he really likes her, ha! I'm probably going to move her out shortly, as I want them to grow out some before breeding. Anyways, enjoy!

Nice pair. How big is the male? I would divide the two and put a love door in so she can come and go as she pleases. They look like they get along great. Sometimes you get lucky, I have a pair of Dovi the male is 16" and the female is 6" I have never divided the two and they constantly spawn and get along great. Good luck with the Umbi they are stunners, looks like you are really enjoying them!

Thanks! The male is 10" or so. I quickly measured the female at 7" when moving her into the tank. There is no doubt that i'll use the divider method when I do get around to breeding these two. He's already starting to get violent as I type this, time to move her back out ;)
 
Better to try and get a spawn out of them at this size! The bigger he gets, the tougher it will be to keep her in good condition. Try giving her a place to hide that he doesn't fit into. My male would have killed my female ten times over if she didn't have a place to duck and hide when he gets nasty (every ten minutes or so).

I got them at 1.5"-2.5" last February, so my guess is a year and a half

ahh great point, I removed her a few minutes ago. He would do the mating dance for the most part, and every 5-10 minutes he'd go nuts and chase her around the tank at 100km/hr, lol. My male isn't as colorful as yours, but i'm hoping it'll come with age/size. Thanks for the props too!
