not sure where this thread belongs so i put it here... a friend told me salamanders are poisonous for fish and will kill them if eaten.. is this true or not??

oh ****.. i better get them out then . i have 2 in there now with my predators..

Some species of salamanders have poison so toxic that any animal that eats them is paralyzed before it can swallow and dead as the salamander crawls back out of its mouth.

Not all salamanders are poisonous and some are eaten by fish but you would have to look up each one to tell, same is true for the more toxic newts. Many of the ones that are either not toxic or very low in toxicity are lungless salamanders like ensatinas and spend almost no time in the water. Many actualy don't even enter it to breed.

The gilled stage of some red bellied newts and california newt carries a nerve toxin like that.

Bass love the salamanders that are native around here.
