Im confused on the stands being built. The stand that came with my Perfecto 265, is nothing but Pine 1x4's and stapples. It's been under my 700LB aquarium for two years without any problems. The factory stand might weigh 30LBS? The stands being built on here are extreme compared to the factory design. I want to make a new stand, but dont want to go crazy. Im jmust confused as to what is really needed.

Most DIY stands are overbuilt. All you need is something that is structurally sound that can hold the weight of your tank when filled.

Indeed most are overbuilt, however for people w less experience a more forgiving margin for error is a good thing. Also standard 2x material usally comes out cheaper than 1.

Definitely true that DIY stands are as a whole very overbuilt. Many would support the weight of a large SUV without a problem;) I second that the cost of 2X material being some cheaper....I was debating 1X vs 2X when building the frame for my 246 gallon tank & the 2X material did save me $$$ over the 1X. Best of luck to you!
