My wild Os have always been black/olive marbeled very deeply colored fish, up until a week ago. Now 2 of them are a darker olive/olive marbled and their fins are more of a light color as well. While the 3rd oscar is still black/olive. Despite coloration the faded oscars act normally, they swim around and eat like cows. I have noticed the 2 faded ones are hanging out more together while the dark one is more by itself...aggression is very minimal, if non existant for the most part. I have seen the faded ones run at the darker one once or twice but its nothing really. This has been going on for some several days...I think it began when my Pacu took a leap from the tank and died, I was really busy last week so I cant put an exact date on the fading. But that was somewhere around a week ago. The water parms are as usual 0 ammonia, 0 nitrite, and nitrates less than 10ppm. I did a waterchange today of about 30% and the smaller of them has gained a little bit more color...but still nowhere near that of being as it was before. Any ideas what could be up or how to make them re-gain their coloring?

I would gladly offer pictures but I still havent managed to get my new camera USB cord in, if it still persists I may suck it up and get that picture disk made from my memory card.

Hard to say mine change colour shades quite a bit, mostly due to changes in the tank, I also found they faded some before they started to get their true colours ( by this I mean the bright orange colour on their sides.)
How big are they? It could be a territory dispute to find the alpha now that the tank is missing a fish or depending on the size it could be the start to a breeding pair but they would have to be around 8 inch before I would really consider that.
Aside from the Pacu jumping ship have you rearranged the tank at all? One of mine sulked for about a month when I moved it to the bigger tank.

Yes they are almost 9", 9", and almost 10". The smaller and larger are the faded ones that hang together, and the dark oddball is the middle sized one. If the guy i bought a USB cord from on ebay would send me my cord Id be more than happy to post pics of them :) Since the 2 lighter fish hang together and the other is kind of solo, I am assuming that maybe they have paired. They have the same body types as my previous mated pair of oscars. The female being shorter bodied and more round in appearance and the male having a longer appearance. I guess time will tell tho. Ive done nothing to the tank its been the same for the last few months.

Thanks for the replies :) The oscars I have kept in the past never faded and remained faded like this before. I had a mated pair of an albino red and a red which didnt go threw a fade out thing before they paired....guess fish are diffrent tho.
