Faded

what kind of fading? Some times my fish will fade when stressed out, (like sometimes during a water change) but then darken up right after.

My ornate lost some of his green coloring around his mouth, it was a slow progression when the color was fading, and it is now slowing coming back. When I originally had gotten him it was no where near as viabrant as it became after keeping for a bit. I'm not sure what caused it but I have added more plants and vitamins/ water supplements/ salt and it seems to be helping. This fading out and coloring up has gone on over the course of a couple of months.

if the fading was to try to blend to a contrasting substrate, I do not see why after changing the substrate the colors wouldn't bounce back. As for how long it would take, I'm not sure. What kind of bichir and what kind/ color of sand/ gravel?

actually I don't have any faded bichirs... I'm just curious...

Like an endli or del with faded stripes?
Faded ornate(not black anymore)...

Yes they do recovers. It may take 3 weeks or more. However it doesn't seems to work with laps. One of my lap was kept in a light gravel substrates for 3 years and it looks like this now even on red substrates. No high contrast on the patterns.

fading could be due to diet or water quality, which are also easily fixed. If your asking about a bichir you might purchase coloring up. I would think that would be rolling the dice, might just be that fish's coloring.
