Fader Flowerhorn help

Hey everyone I have a question about fader flowerhorns. I have a flowerhorn that is around 7 inches and looks like it is kind of fading to orange because the flowerline disappeared on side and i am pretty sure it didnt get beat up on that side. The color on its body has also darkened. Do flowerhorns turn completely black before they fade or just a darker color and do they become less active as well? thanks everyone.
