hello there,
what is the best food for the fader flowerhorn?
do i need to feed it special kinds of food or not?
they eat same food as other cichlids. But for good colors on your fader, I recommend Grand Sumo "Red".
I had a white Midas. I fed it GS red and the Midas turned orange. I didn't like that it asn't white anymore but yeah that's what happened.
I suggest a good staple like Hikari cichlid gold and you can suppliment with freeze dried krill or shrimp to bring out the reds in the fish.
Ultimately, it's your choice. GS, Chingmix and all those other "specialty" FH foods have nothing that makes them stand out from any other fish food out there. Actually, I take that back. It's all a marketing gimmick. Go with New Life Spectrum or Omega One if you're looking for quality feeds. My preference is towards NLS though.
I have and feed:
Massivore, Hikari bio gold, NLS, GS, hikari ciclid gold and other stuff like dried krills and Frozen BW.
Even though I dont like my white Midas turned orange, I gotta be honest and say GS is a potent food over all the others.. You gotta feed observe and believe in your own eyes. I test these foods on my fishes and I observe so dont get smart with me.
But I dont like to pay too much for it. Next time Im going for NLS or Hikari (whichever is a better $ deal)
I feed mine nls as staple along with krill, blood worms and some massivore every once in a while. Also peas are good but only one of my flowerhorn likes them and the other won't touch em.
