Fading flowerhorn: How long does it take?

I have had my flowerhorn for quite some time now and it probably started fading in November/December. It's mid April and it seems it has still not completed this process. I was under the impression that in the fading process all of the "dark" areas will become very light. All the fins and the upper area of my fish are still dark. Can anybody help me out here? Thanks.
