Fading question

a happy fish...when it's comfortable and has a good stable diet it will fade for you. At least, that was the case with my fader. Eats the same food as my other fish and i don't give it anything special. i have my fader in pretty high temps but not sure if that makes a difference. stress def will not help with the fading. id suggest keeping it in a separate tank and not divided where it can see another aggressive fish. also it may never completely fade

I had my red Texas in its own tank on nls at 79-81° and switched it to another tank with same sized cichlids at 82-84° on hikari mass and it appears to have started its fade after a week

I'm not familiar with the "fader fh gene" but I am familiar with red devils and blood parrots. Yes I agree it comes from maturity and also the fish has to have the fading gene which comes from the rd or bp. When talking about "red texas," the fading does not come from texas cichlids because they do not fade(go throught the blotchy looking process)... They just turn from grey to blue or green.

isnt a red texas festae texas?
