I was wondering if I can put another tank mate with my Fahaka puffer. His current tank mate is a NTT datnoid. They have been together for about 5 months now. Do you guys think my Fahaka will accept another tank mate?

I think your fahaka will end up murdering anything you put in the tank once it reaches full size... even the datnoid you have in there. How big is it right now? You MAY have luck with tank mates, most do not.

*waits for pufferpunk to chime in*

99% of fahakas are killers. Even with the 1% that are not (I got lucky with one), there may always be certain fish they just don't like. Although my fahaka allows many tank mates to live in his abode, sometimes he decides he just doesn't like one anymore. Take this fish for example. It's a EBJD that grew up in the fahaka's tank from 1". At 6", the fahaka attacked him overnight & the shock of the attack killed it.

I suggest you DO NOT DO IT. I had mine (he's only like 6") with a pair of 5" clown loaches. They were fine for about 4 months then BAM! Chunk out of one of the loaches faces. He's fine, but only a mother could love him now.

It really depends on the temperament of both fishes. I've had my 7" Fahaka with a 10" Red Devil for about 4 years. The devil is unique because he's killed everything else I ever put in there including other devils, plecs, barbs and africans. He bullies and mouths the fahaka to the point of pushing her above the surface of the water, but rarely bites or does damage. I really think it has to do with the fact that the fahaka is female and he devil is male.

Gorgeous "pair"!

How do you know the fahaka is female?

Mostly from the way they look at each other...JK!

I've seen her cast eggs twice in excitement at feeding time and he has successfully bred with another devil.

Those dots floating around, and the granule looking stuff on the gravel under her, are eggs. It's an odd couple, but they find a way :naughty:

It accepts tank mates! I got a marbled pim and the puffer left it alone.
