Im researching fahaka puffers at the moment. Im considering moving my fish from the 120 to a 65 and getting a baby fahaka. Id like some small dithers to keep the puffer busy and to fill in the void, also im hoping it may make tank mates an option later if he/she grows up with other fish. Other than danios and barbs, are there any other cheap speedy fish im forgetting

Any fish, regardless if its big or small has a chance of disappearing with a fahaka as a tankmate...

Really will come down to the puffers personality if it will allow for anything other than himself to be placed in there... some people get lucky, and others have no chance in hell unfortunately...

Although as a rule of thumb, most people play it safe and don't bother...

I understand that, that why i requested CHEAP fish to keep him busy. Just wondering which types would last the longest

Okay, in my case one yellow lab has worked along with one i think chocolate pleco...

I tried adding on 2 occasions afterwards a group of neon tetras and a group of rummy nose tetras, but both within 2 / 3 weeks disappeared...

Can't comment on Fahaka specifically, but we keep a large school of Celebes Rainbowfish with our Mbu puffer. They ignore him but also are fast and active enough to stay out of his way. We tried Tiger Barbs for a brief period but found they actually picked at his fins, which became an issue. Another dither fish which might work is Danios of some type.

Best of luck to you.

Just don't forget that in Homers case he has the Fahaka in a large oversized tank.

^ True, mines not in a 120g but a 200g with lots of deco so could that could also play a crucial role to aggression issues...

got like 80 serpae tetra with my fahaka in her 125 right now, ive used convict cichlids and 5stars, then put a school of hampala barbs with a mahseer and she has never killed any of them, but the tetras just look more nice in my opinion so i think ill stick with that, shes so big now she cant catch one if she tried lol

Had mine in a 120. Tried many different dithers. By the end two black neons tetras and two glass cats lived with her peacefully all other tetras and danios were food.
