Fahaka picky with 'friends'

I had a single red platy and 2 dozen rosey red minnows in the tank when i added my fahaka. The minnows didnt last 2 whole days but i still have the platy. The platy will pull food from the fahakas mouth and swim along side each other. I have about 50 platies in another tank so i decided to test 3 more. My puffer went right after them so i pulled them and have them in a 12"x8" in tank refugium. The fahaka has been nose-to-glass on that refugium for the last 2 hours. I don't get it, all the platies look identical but he only likes the original platy.

its because its an original platy (one) he's used to having one single fish that look like a platy.

I have nevet been lucky with tank mates i yave three one 9-10" by itself will not tolerate any thing..o do have two smaller 1" that ate together but those days are number as i can see the aggression rising and will be seperated soon...i had another about 3 yeara ago that was about 12" and also wad solo ...but he jump out when i was gone for a couple days and died....so for the most part most end up by themselves eventualy
