I've got a 120 Gallon fahaka tank and i've been thinking about starting to plant it. I would like to start of simple but I have a few questions. I have compact fluorescent actinic and 67,000K daylight bulbs for lighting, putting about 3WPG. Using a sand substrate, would it be as easy as starting with a hearty plant and seeing how it goes? Or should I be looking changing the better part of my set-up?

Im not looking for spectacular results (at least not yet) and I just want to experiment and learn by a bit of trial and error.

Any hints or tips?

This is enough light to grow a lot of things, especially with co2, and ferts.

I would recommend you getting some bomb proof plants to start with.

Java ferns, anubias, and seeing if you have success with those.

Slowly upgrade, getting nicer plants and equipment.

Densely planted tanks do not usually lend themselves to large fish, but it has been done.

GL, looking forward to pictures.
