Around four months ago I bought a 2” ‘baby’ fahaka puffer. Expecting to have to move him on he is in a 100g planted community display tank. This guy is one of the friendliest, inquisitive types and having kept one to adult before I pretty much thought I knew what I was getting. He comes out, eats pretty much anything I give him, and regularly, seems healthy and happy, gets a nice belly and never looking too thin.
However, after 4 months this guy may have grown 0.5 inches.
I recently heard of a potential “small” growing fahaka puffer, T.lineatus rudolfianus. Does anyone know if these are being traded? Is it possible this is what I may have because I don’t recall such really slow growth on previous fahaka puffer.

I just did some quick reading, and it seems that that species is incredibly rare and unlikely to be acquired on accident.
That said, anything’s possible (though highly unlikely). In a group of dwarf puffers I got, I have a hunch that one is a C. imitator, but that’s still much more common than the smaller fahaka.
Assuming it is a true fahaka, what have you been feeding it and how frequently? Puffers are usually a slower grower, but I do recall seeing that fahaka are supposed to be much faster.

Feed it shrimp and watch it grow. Mine wasn’t growing, then it had a growth spurt after eating shrimps.
