So my puffer is about 4" long I got him July 5th of this year so probably about 3 or 4 months old. He is growing quickly. I have been feeding 1 cube of blood worms and 2 cubes of mysis shrimp. I have some dither fish in there that pick up scraps. I throw in a mystery snail once a week for his beak. I found a local bait shop that sells crayfish cheap so I was thinking I may start alternating them into the feeding scheduled. How many crayfish should I feed a day or week? I was thinking instead of frozen food tonight give 1 crayfish. he is still small about 4"

Most puffers love crayfish. At that size though, I would remove the claws from the crayfish as they could cause some serious damage to a smaller puffer.

One crayfish didn't survive the ride home. So I put the dead one in last night. Took the puffer about a long time to finish it. He picked at it then came back every so often and picked at it some more. This morning I checked the tank and no remnants where found.

Cray are medium sized 2 inches I would guess.

Good suggestion about the claws.

For tiny 1" crayfish I personally wouldn't worry about the claws because they're small and puffers have natural stretchy skin. But I would declaw with those 2" crayfish. At least for an inch or so. If feeding dead I would leave the claws on if they're not too big because mine have seem to find them delicious

Careful not to overfeed him when using larger food items such as crayfish for a 4 inch puffer.

My Fahaka is the oddest puffer I have ever had or seen. He wont over feed. He munches and leaves and comes back. If he doesn't finish food I have to take it out. Its been like that since I have had him. My other puffers would eat them selves to death if I let them.

Try oysters, clams & mussels.

I think it is just his particular personality. he gets a a wide range of food. Clams, muscles, table shrimp, krill, mysis shrimp, blood worms, black worms. shoot he eats better than I do :D but he treats all food the same. he munches a bit then comes back a little later.

that's awesome lol my puffer does the same thing except s/he seems to be more picky ive had it since s/he was 2 inches long and after the acclimation was done i gave it a half shelled clam and it went to the surface and spit water at me lol it does it every time i feed it
