IN A PLACE
Hi,
I have been thinking about getting a puffer. I have kept salt water puffers before and currently have a 175g community tank. Wanted to get a Mbu puffer but I don't have a spare 1000g tank lying around. After researching, it seams like a Fahaka or Cross River (good luck!) is what I am looking for. I have a great place in my house where I could put a 30" x 30" x 30" cube tank but I wanted to know if that would be an acceptable housing for a puffer that could grow to 18". The gallonage (125g) is correct, but is the shape okay?

Nothing is set in stone, I haven't purchased a tank or a puffer yet. I want to get all the facts before diving in. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Shape would be ok if the tank was around 500g at least. They get like 3 feet long and are very aggressive

I think you are confusing the Fahaka with the Mbu. THe Mbu get almost 3ft long. The Fahaka's max size is 18"

Your right
But people say you can't keep a oscar in a 55g and i agree because oscars get a foot and a 55g is a foot wide. 125g are 18" wide and fahakas get 18". Unless you get a 125g wide than it's unacceptable

he never said it was a standard 125g...he said it was a cube at 30" all around. is that still acceptable?:screwy:

i would think it would be fine if it was just the fahaka. but dont quote me. im no puffer expert...experts will chime in

I think you should stick with the advice at TPF. ;)

Personally, i don't think a 30" cube all round would work too well considering the max length of fish... if the tank was say 4ft long and 30inches wide, and 24inches deep then i would say go for it...

Just my 0.2cents
