i used to have an 8" fahaka puffer sold months ago for $50, You should try www.thatpetplace.com they ship all over the usa for pretty good prices as well, I have gotten a couple of Fahaka Puffer and rare plecos from the site in the past at a very cheap to fair price, ask for Sarah. Fahaka puffer will be available and easier to find at lfs for around early summer to late summer. As a matter or fact, I think the last time I checked at www.thatpetplace.com they have medium size fahaka puffer available.
 
I think Exotic Aquarium still have some. It's located it Sac. So not too far from where you are. Look them up online and give them a call. I think i saw them for about $20 for 2-3 inch.
