Hello all!

Brand new to the group!
And stoked to be here!

Just got myself a Fahaka Puffer. ( been into community Tanks and planted aquariums the last decade.)

Decided it was time to downsize and got rid of all of my aquariums but my 100 gallon and have seen how personable puffers can be and decided to get one. ( will be getting him a bigger aquarium after he gets bigger. He is barely 3” right now.)

The last two months I have been breeding ramshorn snails in preparation.

All the pinned/topped post here are super helpful!

One thing I want to ask is I have had my Fahaka Puffer at my home for about 15 days now.
I had him quarantined at my LFS with meds for three weeks prior to gettting him because I know they are prone to worms and parasites.
The first 12 days he was super social and following me everywhere.
However the last three days he runs away at the sight of me and just hides unless it is feeding time. Is this normal?
I’m probably just overthinking it, but it’s a good first post for me to break out of my Shell and be social on the forum.

Welcome aboard

I've personally never kept a Fahaka Puffer but there are a few members that do and they will chime in.

Welcome to the forums B BionicBroccoli (cool name btw)...

As for your puffer, being only 3” and quite new to the tank, i would say hes now settled enough into his new environment that hes become wary of whats outside his tank instead...

However, the fact that he / she recognizes you as the giver of food is a good sign, from there just need a little more time before he gets used to seeing this big figure walking up to the tank and meaning no harm (at which point should become a lot more interactive)

-edit-

This is also a good time to get your puffer used to your hand in the tank for doing maintenance, coz last thing you want is a 12”+ puffer with a taste for going after fingers and hands ;)

I agree

It is probably just settling into its new tank when it's settled in it should come right up to the front of the tank when you come near it or stick your finger in and he'll come right out
