I recently purchased a fahaka at my LFS I’m concerned because he won’t eat the blood worms I give him he just bites them then spits them out. I’ve tried feeding him snails but he just kills them and doesn’t eat them he also won’t accept shrimp or clams. He’s just under an inch long his water parameters are 0 nitrites nitrates and ammonia about a 7.2 ph and a temp of 78-80 degrees I’ve only had him for just under a week so I might just be losing my mind for no reason but he goes after food and just doesn’t eat it so I imagine he’s hungry and wants to eat.

How long has the aquarium been setup? I'm asking because you have a negative reading for Nitrate.

Over a month. I’m not sure if somethings wrong with my test kit but it never reads nitrates in any of my tanks I keep up with water changes regardless.

Most don't know but you have to shake the test bottles for Nitrate vigorously for about 1 minute before testing.

Just gave it another try and shook it well before testing results still show 0 nitrates it could be because I did pretty much a 75 % water change earlier today

Oh that probably explains the negative reading. Have you noticed any stringy white poop? Most puffer species are wild caught and will be infested with internal parasites so most members will treat the new puffer.

I haven’t noticed that but I’ll treat him anyways I’m just not sure which medication to use I read on another thread that they’re very sensitive and easy to over dose.

Besides the puffer not being settled, you may also want to try soaking your puffs food in some garlic juice to help entice him to eat...
