HI
can i put a 2" by himself in a 10g? and for how long? do they grow fast? i seen one this size in a display tank at a lfs and it was a 12g planted...

You should put it in the biggest tank you have now instead of later. This will help him to grow faster. You can keep him in a 10g, but I'd be doing 1 50% wc every day at the minimum.

fahaka grow to 18" and are very fast growers, you'll need and aquarium, with at least a 6'x18" foot print to keep and adult, and is it possible it was a different kind of puffer that may have been a dwarf you saw, becuase those are common, and can be kept in tanks that size.

I have mines in a 10gl right now. waiting for my freind to cycle his 100gl tank.

yeah that'd be okay for a couple months, but make sure you have a tank ready for an adult, many hobbists make the mistake of buying a fish that will outgrow the small tank it in now, and thinking they get a bigger tank later, and some people never do.

I would not put him in there. Fahaka's need very well aerated water, and a good amount of flow. Hex tanks are notorious for having lacking flow, and their extra depth means that many pumps will not pump much water down to the air stone.
