Now i know all the individuals who have kept Fahaka's or would like to pretend that they have are going to roll their eyes. However, my 9'' Fahaka loves eating crayfish, in fact he loves eating any type of live food. Now due to the fact that i refuse to feed him any type of feeder fish or ghost shrimp because of the millions of deseases they carry. I would like to know (keep in mind that i'm not asking for opinions on the matter just facts) would I be able to feed the Fahaka every once and a blue moon a pinky or a mouse? Beside the possibility of the mouse biting back, would the Puffer have a problem digesting mice or pinkies? Will feeding him one of the two result in other types of health problems.

(Don't judge me! I love my puffer):)

why dont you just feed it market cut shrimp with shell on and some clam/mussels as staple. it also will help keep the teeth trimmed down.

i have no idea about what effects it will have with feeding pinkies but i've seen video of people feeding their fishes pinkies. it might however leave it bloody in the tank since the fahaka wouldn't be able to swallow it full and might need to take bites out of it.

if you ever decide to feed it pinkies, please take a video clips of it cause i am sure there are many that would like a feeding video. :D

I wouldn't do a mouse nor a pinkie. The fahaka's teeth won't get much benefit, and there are much healthier foods for gizmo. Ramshorn snails are great, as they breed REALLY fast.

Why would you want to feed a puffer a mouse?! They don't eat anything even close to it in the wild.

Fahaka's also don't eat saltwater shrimp, nor saltwater clams in the wild, and yet they are a common foods for these fish in captivity.

i feed him clams, shrimp(mostly), muscles and crayfish...Just wanted to see if anyone tried anything different. I've already changed my mind however...i'll stick to the shell fish

But they do eat molluscs in the wild. They don't eat mice.

You should not feed mice. Fish, with the exception of some fowl that periodically falls in the water, are not equipped to digest mamal protein..apart from that the impact on your water quality will be imense.. all things considered, it is not worth it, imo
