I have a 150 gallon tank that I'd like to put a fahaka in. The tank is 18" wide, how long before I would need to get a wider tank??

Well, in all honesty, it wouldn't need to be upgraded too quickly... fahakas normally in their first year will grow to about 12" - 13" and then slow down considerably... so i would guess depending on the size of the fish when you purchase it... maybe around 1 - 2 years roughly...

Good, I'm about to pull the trigger and order one. 6" male. I hope he'll adjust ok and not be too emotional!

how do you know it to be a male? as far as i have ever known no one could sex them

Sharp outlines on it stripes, but yeah it's just a guess!!! Anything to worry about when buying one that's already 6 inches?

I don't think the solid stripes necessarily means that a fahaka is a male or female... the only way to really tell is by seeing if it ever decides to lay eggs...
