Dumb question but would a fahaka puffer be able to keep it's teeth trimmed with large hikAri massivore pellets? Mine love it and I'm so lazy to grow out snails

Simple answer no... They need ptope hard shell food like crabs, muscles, cockles and crayfish to grind them down. But count yourself lucky they take pellet at all! Much easier than a carried frozen diet!

You can also add Clams or Mussels as part of their diet... if your fahaka is large enough, just open the clam shell a little bit so that they can smell the meat inside, then once they get the scent, they normally will start to go to town trying to crack it open and in the process wear down their teeth...

It's about 5-6 inches right now. They get clams but they ignore it unless it's clam meat or on the half shell. I'll just have to starve them a bit more so they work harder for their food. Thanks

^ yeah, you may also want to try waving it a bit in front of your puffer when its been opened a little, just so he can smell the food and then hopefully he should go for it once he recognizes the smell... if after say 10min you don't see your puffer trying to go at it anymore, then open it a little bit more just to make him work for his meal...
