Well, I may need to look into puffer rehab. After the arrival of Zelda, I am puffer obsessed. I just bought a few Pea puffers, I eyeballed a Congo, and I am constantly on the lookout for other fun, fw puffers. We had a Arrowhead for awhile, but had a severe tank disaster that ended with him no longer being with us. :cry: They're such amazing fish! It's a pretty safe assumption that I am no where near done bringing different puffer species home. The only fw puffer that does not have a home here is an Mbu, because I can not, and don't want to, properly house one.
What was your gateway puffer?

But to answer you question, my gateway puffer was an F8... Although sadly didnt last since at that time i had no clue about puffers and listened to the LFS (big mistake)

I started with a GSP. It terrorized my 55 FW tank (back then we were all told they were nice, FW fish) & I had to bring him back. That face haunted me forever though...

Always been a puffer addict. My 1st puffer was over 20 years ago and had many different species over the years. Only lost afew to sickness but sold most in good health due to moving and changes in my life. Btw, a guy wants to sell me his Congo puffer because he is tired of feedin it live fish..lol. He wants me to make him an offer. Oh man, I got a 20 long that he would do well in. Yeah still addicted here too..lol

I was eyeballing a congo at the lfs the other day. They wanted a little too much for him, though.
Where in Ky are you? Our family is from Mt. Vernon.
 
Beware--if he's been feeding it feeders for any length of time, it may not last long. Early death due to fatty liver disease. I had one last only 6 weeks. Did a necropsy & the liver was hard as a rock & yellow.

I wonder if its because if the type of fish being fed to them? Coz in nature surely they must eat a fair amount of unwary fish?
