I just got my new fahaka yesterday and everything says they need a Ph of 6-7.6 or 7.8 which is dandy but my tap water has a GH 0.5 KH 0.5 and a very unstable PH. So what i do is age my tap with aragonite in a mag350 for a few days and the Ph sits at 8.0-8.1 and a GH of 6/7 and a KH of 8/9 makeing for far more stable water, it's very consistant (I always check) so given the consistant water params would the Ph being slightly on the high side be detrimental to the fish's health/growth?

My water over here is constant betwen 8.0-8.2 and never had any ill effects on my fish, my fahaka is doing fine in it as well as all the other puffers. The usual advice I have been given is to keep a stable PH over anything else.

I think its more important to keep your water parameters stable then to keep trying to adjust it to be the right PH etc... since fish over time do acclimate to their surroundings as long as its not too far from what they normally need...

just my 0.2 cents...

Thanks guys, thats what I figured seeing as Discus live in my Tap just fine I just wanted to make sure.

^ Yup, as long as Nitrates, Nitrites and Ammonia aren't high out your tap you should be fine...
