So I picked up a baby fahaka a while ago. When i got him he was just over an inch. I did the research and know what i have gotten into. But I kinda hate one fish in a tank so I am going to try to get him acclimated to a community...lol He is about 3 1/2 inches now and had been in 20 long by himself till a couple hours ago. He is now in a forty breeder with some krobia and red head geo growouts and a group of threadfin barbs... when he first went in he bit a krobias tail but since then he hasn't touched anything...just cruising around checking out his new home. I know this isnt usually successful but i have heard of a few instances...

So wish me luck and no this is not his long time home but if he goes psycho I wont be to upset with these tankmates
...

And of course a thread needs pics... sorry crappy blackberry pics but i need to buy a new camera

As you said, its not 100% impossible, but as long as you know that there is a chance your puffer could turn, and have tanks ready to move the other fish into then there is no reason why not to give it a shot...

My only advise is give the other fish plenty of hiding spaces which the puffer cannot reach as it gets older, since fahaka's have also been known to do fine for up to a few years, and then suddenly turn on their tank mates with no prior warning...

Either way, best of luck with it...

My fahaka has been living with a yellow lab and i think chocolate or rubber lip pleco for just over 3 years since she was a mere 1.5"...

Tried adding other small fast schooling fish as she got older but they all disappeared within a week...

As for advise, as i said before, lots of cover the fahaka cant access easily, and non-aggressive tank mates or they will likely pick a fight with the fahaka and lose...

aww, what a chubby fahaka! In the second pic, it looks like he his thinking, "I am so gonna eat some fins in here!"

This probably won't work out, but I wish you the best of luck, like homer said.. be ready to move if necessary.

very nice looking Fahaka, i bought one online this month. I had him in my 125 with 11 labs, 3 multi's and 2 GSP's and he got along fine with them. I just gave my buddy the labs and multi's as they were a gift for him and now he resides in the tank with the 2gsp's. he will be going into a 120 wide soon as i plan to turn the 125 into a brackish tank for the GSP's but for the moment they are living peacefully.
